A gentle and therapeutic artisan soap featuring the benefits of honeybee products and infused native herbs, some cultivated and others wild foraged by us seasonally.

The infused herbs used in our soaps are harvested at the Bí URBAN Outpost in Kilquiggin Co Wicklow and include the following herbs as well as others:

Horsetail
(Equisetum Arvense) is a plant from the Equisetaceae family that has existed for about 400 million years. Horsetail has been deemed a “living fossil,” because its existence dates back even before the dinosaurs. It’s medicinal properties are diverse. High in antioxidant content and significant levels of silicon, the plant promotes bone health, regulates blood flow, functions as a diuretic and maintains skin and hair health. We harvest our Horsetail along the Royal Canal where it grows abundantly creating a mini forest along the path.

Plantain
This tenacious plant can be found pushing its way through cracks in the pavement throughout the city. It is so commonplace on rough ground that it is considered a weed, but Plantain has been valued in traditional medicine for centuries as a remedy for coughs, wounds, inflamed skin and dermatitis. It is an essential ingredient in our nourishing skin balm for use topically to treat dry, chapped and itchy skin, insect bites, bee stings, small wounds and cuts. The herb has also been effective in the treatment of eczema and psoriasis.

Lavender
A favourite with bees, the soothing effects of the essential oil made from this popular herb are well known. Lavender oil is widely used in diffusers to create a calming atmosphere, in aromatherapy massage oil due to its anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties and to provide relief in other skin conditions such as dermatitis and eczema. More recently Lavender is being evaluated scientifically for psoriasis like skin inflammation. Lavender oil is an important ingredient in our Bí nourishing balm for skin.

Meadowsweet
This native perennial from the Rosaceae family is found growing in damp waysides, meadows, marshes. It flowers throughout Ireland, providing an abundant source of pollen for pollinators from June to September. In the 19^th century, chemists isolated salicylic acid from Meadowsweet. The acid is a disinfectant so it not only made rooms smell better but helped the fight against bacteria before its subsequent development into aspirin. Salicylic acid is a natural exfoliator and acts as an anti-inflammatory on skin reducing redness, itchiness and rashes.

A nifty honeycomb shaped travel version of our Bí Artisan Soap supplied in a refillable aluminum tin for protection during travel.

Handmade in our Stoneybatter studio using our unique recipe, this artisan soap contains over 50% locally foraged ingredients and demonstrates the principle principal of ‘industrial ecology,’ when the waste from one industry becomes an essential material in the development of another. We work in collaboration with local food producers to obtain high quality vegetable oils used to preserve imported food products (olives, sun dried tomatoes, etc). Due to health and safety regulations, these oils cannot be used again in food production.

These waste oils present an environmental hazard if discarded. By using this waste stream we are both saving the food producers disposal costs and reducing our expenditure on soap making ingredients. This makes it possible for us to invest in exotic materials that enhance the gentle cleansing and therapeutic properties of our artisan bar.

This blend has been designed to emulate the citrusy scent used by the Queen Bee to communicate and work with her colony. Beekeepers use lemongrass oil to attract swarming honeybees during the summer months. This is a fresh blend of Lemongrass and Rosemary enriched with the essential oils of five flowering herbs that provide important pollen and nectar for bees. The essential oil blend is combined with Grapeseed oil to prevent irritation to sensitive skin. We always recommend conducting a patch test before using essential oils.

Suitable for use on the skin or in a diffuser to scent the home.

Ingredients: 50% Grapeseed oil and 50% Essential oils of Lemongrass, Rosemary, Rose Geranium, , Lavender, Bergamot, Sweet Fennel, and Clary Sage. 10ml in a glass dropper bottle.

The addition of Kaolin clay makes Bí SHAVE & SHAMPOO a super-mineral rich bar with gentle exfoliation properties which also can be used as facial cleanser. Foam it up in your palm and add a drop or two of Bí elixir, or a facial oil of your choice, to make a gentle medium for removing make up.

Our Bí Travel Candles are handcrafted in our Stoneybatter studio and contain the highest grade of plant-based Eco Soya Wax combined with our Bí Essential Oil Blend (lemongrass, rosemary and 6 herbs, designed to emulate the citrus-like pheromone used by the Queen Honeybee (See full description in product descriptions).

Although beeswax is the ultimate candle ingredient it is extremely hard won. Our cleaver honeybee friends secrete this precious material using glands in their abdomen. For this reason we reserve our wild organic beeswax for use in skin preparations where it has the most therapeutic benefit and use Eco Soya Wax in our candle making.

Produced in a light aluminum container, the candle makes a perfect travelling companion. Light it anywhere you find yourself to infuse a sense of comfort and well-being in the most sterile environments while on the road.

A rich balm for all areas of the body that need soothing and nourishment including lips, hands, elbows, feet, beards and mustaches. Our balm contains products from the hive, honey and propolis, that have been used for generations to calm irritated areas of skin including patches of Eczema and Psoriasis. Infusions of Plantain and Horsetail foraged along the Royal Canal add to the anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties of this mixture. Bí Balm can be used to sooth a range of skin irritations including dry, chapped patches, rashes, burns, wounds, insect bites, etc.

We use our balm to treat bee stings when working in our apiary and have had excellent feedback from people who have used it to tackle long term issues with psoriasis. If you have serious skin issues please start with our 10ml tin and conduct a patch test before applying to trouble areas.

Celebrating the fruits of a wild Irish coastal hedgerow

Bí Elixir is a blend of organic and infused oils with spectacular properties for skin, hair and nails, derived from wild plants which thrive uncultivated in the Irish landscape. A product based on research in our Bí URBAN lab and test on people (not animals), Bí ELIXIR has also been designed to support Ireland’s transition toward climate neutrality.

Despite their proven benefits and abundant availability in Irish landscapes, none of the cold pressed organic oils chosen for this blend are produced commercially in Ireland today. By celebrating the valuable properties of these native pollinator friendly plants found in Irish hedgerows, we hope to highlight potential products for Irish agricultural cultivation that will support increased biodiversity and climate neutrality.

Simple Bí ELIXIR Face Cream Recipe:

Bring all ingredients to room temperature. In a ceramic bowl, use a small whisk to blend one tablespoon Bí ELIXIR with 2-3 tablespoons Aloe Vera and ½ a teaspoon raw natural honey. Whip into a smooth light cream. Add 6-10 drops of essential oil with benefits for your skin type (rose, neroli, geranium, bergamot and lavender are standards). Store in a clean glass jar with a lid. No need to refrigerate.

Ingredients: Organic Borage, Elderberry, Evening Primrose, Plum Kernel, Raspberry, Rosehip and Sea Buckthorn oils. Macerated Burdock, Hawthorn, Horsetail, Plantain, Rosemary and Seaweed, infused in Irish Wild Flax (camelina) oil.

Bí Wax for Wood is an example of industrial Ecology, where the waste from manufacturing on product becomes a valuable ingredient in another. Bí Wax for Wood contains beeswax left over during our honey production and the off-cuts from our bath soap production.

It makes a wonderful, non-toxic wax with a citrus aroma, leaving a matte finish that massages well into both wood & leather.

A hand sanitiser that is gentle on the hands, avoiding the rough and damaging effects of alcohol by using the far superior Ecohydra instead. Blended into the recipe we also have honey and propolis for the their naturally healing and revitalising properties. The mix of essential oils are naturally anti-bacterial and well as calming & revitalising in their aroma.
